What Holy Spirit Does for You -Part III

Discovering the Holy Spirit’s role in our lives can be awe-inspiring. When we recognize His work both in scripture and in our experiences, it deepens our confidence and relationship with God. Below are some of the profound ways the Holy Spirit impacts our lives:

The Holy Spirit brings renewal and refreshment when we are weary. His presence provides rest and restores our strength, as promised in Isaiah 40:31:

“Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”

During moments of exhaustion, simply calling on the Holy Spirit can uplift and revitalize you within moments. For instance, after long days of work, my friends and I would spend just a few minutes in praise, and the Holy Spirit would refresh our minds, bodies, and souls.

As Psalms 104:30 says:
“When you send forth your Spirit, they are created, and you renew the face of the ground.”

He Quickens You

The Holy Spirit breathes life into us, enabling us to fulfill God’s plans, regardless of our age or physical limitations. This is evident in Romans 8:11:

“If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit that dwells in you.”

Examples abound in scripture:

  • Moses, at 120 years old, retained sharp eyesight and physical vigor.
  • Caleb, at 85, declared himself as strong as he was at 45 (Joshua 14:10-11).
  • Abraham and Sarah experienced their bodies quickened for a miraculous childbirth (Romans 4:19).

The Spirit empowers us to say, as in Psalm 103:5, “My youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”

He Reminds You

The Holy Spirit ensures we remember God’s Word and His teachings:

“The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you everything and remind you of all that I have said to you.” (John 14:26)

Whether it’s resisting temptation or finding hope during tough times, the Holy Spirit reminds us of scripture we’ve meditated on. A woman once recalled a childhood memory verse, “Thou shall not commit adultery,” at a critical moment, which empowered her to walk away from sin.

Additionally, He reminds us of everyday things through inner promptings or dreams. Being sensitive to His voice blesses us immensely.

The Holy Spirit acts as a guiding hand, often restraining us from wrong actions. For instance, He prevented Paul from preaching in Asia and Bithynia (Acts 16:6-8).

This restraining force works in subtle ways:

  • A nudge to hold back from speaking words we might regret.
  • A “brake” to stop us from acting in the flesh.

Ignoring these promptings can lead to spiritual numbness. However, when we heed His voice, we avoid unnecessary troubles. 2 Samuel 24:3 reminds us of the consequences of neglecting godly restraint, as King David did by taking a census against counsel.

He Protects You

The Holy Spirit is our protector and defender. His presence surrounds us like a shield, ensuring safety even in perilous times. Judges 14:5-6 recounts how the Spirit empowered Samson to tear apart a lion barehanded, showing the strength He imparts.

I’ve personally experienced the Holy Spirit’s protection. One night, during intense spiritual warfare, I felt an overwhelming presence of the Spirit. The next day, during prayer, I realized He had safeguarded me from unseen threats.

The Bible reassures us in 1 Peter 1:5: “We are protected by the power of God.” His presence guards us even when we’re unaware of the dangers.

He Is Your Advocate

Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as our Advocate:

“When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth… He will testify on My behalf.” (John 15:26)

As an Advocate, the Holy Spirit speaks for us during trials, providing wisdom that no adversary can refute. When you face challenges, trust Him to give you the right words:

“When they hand you over, do not worry about how you are to speak or what you are to say, for it is not you who speak but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” (Matthew 10:18-20)

The Holy Spirit is a divine companion, empowering, guiding, and protecting us in every aspect of life. His presence ensures that we are never alone, always equipped to walk the path God has set before us. Trust in Him, and experience the fullness of His work in your life.
