The Voice of Prophecy – I

The voice of prophecy is a beautiful gift from God through which He speaks to His people. Since the beginning of time, God has used prophecy to guide, warn, encourage, and comfort His children. It is not merely a spiritual gift—it is a powerful way the Holy Spirit communicates God’s mind and will to us.

What Is the Voice of Prophecy?

Prophecy is when God speaks to man. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 14:3:

“Those who prophesy speak to other people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort.”

Prophecy is always led by the Holy Spirit. It can:

  • Reveal things to come
  • Expose wounds from the past that need healing
  • Uncover traps set by the enemy
  • Provide the key to miracles
  • Warn us of false relationships

Prophecy in the Bible

The Bible gives us many examples of both personal prophecy and general prophecy.

  • Personal Prophecy:
    Jesus said to Peter,

“Before the rooster crows, you will deny me three times.” (Matthew 26:34)
This was directed only at Peter.

  • General Prophecy:
    Jesus told His disciples,

“Many will come in My name, saying ‘I am He’… do not go after them.” (Luke 21:8)
This was for the entire group.

Both types of prophecy help build up the Church and guide believers.

How Does Prophecy Come?

Prophecy comes in two main ways:

1. Revelatory Prophecy

This happens through:

  • Dreams and visions
  • The still small voice of the Holy Spirit
  • Bible passages coming alive during reading
  • Angelic messages or divine impressions

A personal example shared by a believer describes how during a retreat, someone prayed and prophesied that she would be baptized and marry a good man. This later came true exactly as said.

2. Utterance of the Spirit

Sometimes, prophecy comes through spontaneous words spoken by someone moved by the Spirit. This may happen during prayer meetings, retreats, or even casual moments with friends.

Example:

“Do not be afraid of this great army; the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (2 Chronicles 20:15)

The Power of Prophetic Words

The voice of prophecy is life-changing. It can:

  • Create new paths
  • Break strongholds of the enemy
  • Provide wisdom for decisions
  • Confirm God’s promises

Whether you are at home, in church, or going about your day, God can speak through prophecy to strengthen, encourage, and direct you.

Final Thoughts

God still speaks today. If you are open and listening, the voice of prophecy can bring light to your path and clarity to your heart. Embrace this gift with faith, and let the Holy Spirit guide you into God’s perfect will for your life.
