Introduction
When you study the Holy Bible and observe the world around you, you can marvel at the immense power of God. From the heavens declaring His glory to the wonders of creation, God’s power is evident everywhere.
The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the firmament proclaims his handiwork,” (Psalms 19:1).
You can marvel at the Sun, the Moon and the Earth. You can marvel at the animal kingdom, the vegetation on the earth. You can marvel at the making of man.
“When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established, what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor,” (Psalms 8:3-5).
God created everything by His spoken Word (Genesis 1:1-6), and He sustains all this by His powerful Word. (Hebrews 1:3).
God not only created man but He also put His power into man. And again, and again God demonstrated His power on behalf of man.
When people started quarrelling with Moses, Moses cried out to God, and God said to Moses, “Strike the rock and water will come out of it, so that people may drink. And Moses did so. And water flowed out of the rock,” (Exodus 17:6-7). That’s the thunder of His power!
When Joshua was fighting the battle, Joshua prayed to the Lord, “… The Sun stopped in mid-heaven, and did not hurry to set for about a whole day. There has been no day like it before or since, when the LORD heeded a human voice; …,” (Joshua 10:13-14). God actually stopped the very movement of the earth in answer to his prayer! That’s thunder of His power!
When Samson was trapped, the Holy Bible tells us, “… Then at midnight he rose up, took hold of the doors of the city gate and the two posts, pulled them up, bar and all, put them on his shoulders, and carried them to the top of the hill…,” (Judges 16:3). That’s thunder of His power!
There are thousands of examples of God demonstrating His power on man’s behalf, in the Holy Bible. And it would be impossible to write each one of them. Try to read the Holy Bible from cover to cover, to see for yourself the thunder of His power.
In the New Testament, we find an acceleration of the power of God, the good Lord working alongside ordinary people, confirming ‘their’ message with ‘His’ signs and wonders.
The Lord working with the apostles opened the door for miracles in the New Testament Church. “A great number of people would also gather from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing the sick and those tormented by unclean spirits, and they were all cured,” (Acts 5:16).
