The Dreams – II

Dreams are one of the most beautiful and mysterious ways God speaks to us. They can uplift our hearts, direct our steps, and reveal heavenly truths. Each dream carries its own purpose—some are prophetic, some instructive, some revelatory, and others are corrective or intercessory. But no matter the type, dreams are a joyful reminder that God is intimately involved in our lives.

1. Prophetic Dreams – A Glimpse of Tomorrow

Prophetic dreams unveil the things to come. They are a divine preview of God’s plans for our lives and the world.

“…and he will declare to you the things that are to come…”John 16:13

The Holy Spirit reveals future events through dreams, Scripture, visions, His still voice, and the inward witness. These dreams are often given to prepare, encourage, or strengthen us. Like Joseph, who saw his destiny through a dream (Genesis 37:5-7), we too may receive visions of our calling or blessings ahead.

Even when doors close, God uses dreams to reassure us: “Trust Me, something better is coming!”

2. Warning Dreams – God’s Gentle Nudge

Sometimes God lovingly warns us through dreams, guiding us to make necessary changes.

“…But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him…”Genesis 20:3

From Abimelech to Jacob’s father-in-law, and even St. Joseph, God has used dreams to protect, redirect, and lead His children away from danger. These dreams are not to be feared but to be embraced—they show that God is watching over us, even while we sleep.

3. Intercessory Dreams – A Call to Pray

Have you ever dreamt of someone in distress? That might be God calling you to pray.

Once, I dreamt of a Sister from our retreat center being overwhelmed by waves. It was vivid and symbolic. The next morning, I knew God was urging me to pray for her. Later, I found this verse:

“Then from his mouth the serpent poured water like a river…”Revelation 12:15

The dream was a sign—Satan was attempting to accuse and bring her down, but through prayer, she was rescued. What a joy to know that our prayers, even whispered in response to a dream, can shift heavenly outcomes!

4. Instructional Dreams – Steps from Heaven

Dreams can carry divine instructions, just as Jacob saw in Genesis 31. Even I received writing inspirations for my book through dreams—sections on prophecy and exhortation that I hadn’t thought of before.

“The angel of God said to me in the dream, ‘Jacob!’ And I said, ‘Here I am…’”Genesis 31:11

How delightful it is when God writes on the tablet of our hearts while we rest!

5. Revelatory Dreams – Knowing God Deeper

Some dreams reveal the greatness and nearness of God. Remember Jacob’s dream of the ladder reaching heaven?

“And he dreamed… the angels of God were ascending and descending on it…”Genesis 28:12-15

Jacob woke up in awe, having encountered the God of Abraham and Isaac. These dreams stir our spirits and remind us that heaven is closer than we think.

6. Impartational Dreams – Healing in the Night

In 2 Maccabees 15:11-16, we read of John Maccabees receiving a sword in a dream from the prophet Jeremiah. These are dreams that impart strength, healing, or peace, even while we sleep.

“It is in vain that you rise up early and go late to rest… for He gives sleep to His beloved.”Psalm 127:2

What joy it is to know that God ministers to us in our rest, restoring our souls and preparing us for the day ahead.

A Final Word of Hope

Dreams are one of God’s joyful gifts to us. Whether to guide, warn, instruct, or bless, they remind us that God is always with us, speaking, leading, and loving us through every season of life.

So the next time you dream, wake up with a smile—God might have just whispered something beautiful to your heart.
