There are moments in our spiritual journey when we must learn to stir up the anointing within us. The word stir can mean to rouse, revive, awaken, or fire up. Sometimes, we may feel dry or distant from the presence of the Lord, but just like air in a room that becomes noticeable when a fan stirs it, the anointing within us needs to be activated.
Even when we don’t feel God’s presence, His Spirit is always with us. Like the air we breathe, it’s there even when it feels imperceptible. By stirring up the anointing, we can experience His power more tangibly.
Consider the story of Prophet Elisha in the Bible. When the kings approached him for a prophetic word, Elisha didn’t initially feel the anointing. However, when a musician played, the presence of the Lord was stirred within him, enabling him to prophesy. This example reminds us of the importance of activating the anointing in our lives.
Ways to Stir Up the Anointing
Here are effective methods to awaken God’s presence in your life:
1. Praise and Worship
Spending time in praise and worship is one of the most powerful ways to stir up the presence of the Lord. Speak words like:
- “Father, I worship You!”
- “Jesus, I adore You!”
- “Holy Spirit, I honor You!”
2. Singing to the Lord
Singing songs of praise, hymns, or spiritual songs will awaken the anointing. For instance, when Paul and Silas sang hymns, God’s presence manifested powerfully, leading to a miraculous breakthrough.
3. Praying in Tongues
Praying or singing in tongues stirs up the power within you, enhancing your spiritual connection.
4. Declaring the Word of God
Speaking scripture aloud with faith strengthens your spirit. For example:
- “Greater is He who is within me than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).
Keep declaring His Word until you sense the anointing stirring.
5. Reading Scripture
Immerse yourself in the Word of God until you feel His presence.
6. Calling on the Holy Spirit
Simple prayers like “Come, Holy Spirit!” invite His presence and stir the anointing.
Play worship songs or music that uplifts your spirit and draws you closer to God.
8. Intercession for Others
Praying for others not only blesses them but also stirs up God’s presence in your life.
9. Fasting
Fasting with a prayerful heart deepens your connection with God and ignites the anointing.
10. Receiving the Body and Blood of Christ
Participating in Holy Communion with reverence and faith can bring a profound sense of God’s presence.
11. Praying for Revival
When we seek revival—personally or collectively—the Spirit moves mightily.
12. Quieting Your Spirit
Taking moments of silence to focus on God helps awaken the anointing within.
13. Laying on of Hands
Allow Spirit-filled believers to pray over you and impart the anointing through the laying on of hands.
Biblical Reminder
Paul encourages us in 2 Timothy 1:6:
“For this reason, I remind you to rekindle the gift of God that is within you.”
When we actively stir up the presence of God, we position ourselves to walk in His power and fulfill His purposes in our lives.
