Revelation plays a vital role in uncovering God’s will and truth. God consistently reveals hidden mysteries to those who seek Him. As Jeremiah 33:3 says:
“Call to me, and I will reveal great and mighty things that you do not know.”
In Isaiah 45:3, God promises:
“I will give you treasures of darkness and riches hidden in secret places, so that you may know I am the Lord, who calls you by name.”
Throughout history, God has used revelatory gifts to guide His people. These gifts enable believers to grasp spiritual truths, enriching their prayers and daily lives.
The Word of Knowledge reveals information about the past or present through the Holy Spirit. This gift does not come from study or observation but from divine insight.
In John 1:47-48, Jesus demonstrates this gift when He tells Nathaniel:
“I saw you under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
Another example is Elisha’s encounter with Gehazi in 2 Kings 5:22-26. Elisha discerns Gehazi’s deceit after he secretly accepts gifts from Naaman.
The Word of Knowledge often manifests through inner impressions, the Holy Spirit’s voice, dreams, visions, or physical sensations. For instance, when praying for someone, a believer may physically feel the same pain the other person is experiencing, revealing the need for healing.
The Gift of Discerning of Spirits helps believers distinguish between the Holy Spirit, human spirits, and demonic spirits. This gift offers supernatural insight into spiritual realms, beyond natural wisdom or experience.
In Acts 16:16-18, Paul discerns a spirit of divination in a slave girl. Though she spoke truth, Paul recognized the source as demonic and commanded the spirit to leave:
“I order you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her.”
This gift also reveals the activity of angels and the heavenly realm (Hebrews 12:22-24). It manifests through visions, dreams, and inner impressions, allowing believers to see the true spiritual influence at work.
3. The Word of Wisdom
The Word of Wisdom provides divine solutions to complex problems. It reveals God’s plans and offers guidance that goes beyond human understanding.
James 1:5 encourages believers to seek wisdom, and the Holy Spirit imparts this gift in specific situations. One testimony describes a man who, while praying for his aunt, saw a vision of a leaf in her intestine. This revelation led to the discovery of the cause of her pain, resulting in healing.
Another example involves a woman with tuberculosis. As she prayed, the Lord gave her Isaiah 53:5, which brought healing and restoration.
The Word of Wisdom comes through Scripture, visions, dreams, or the Holy Spirit’s still, small voice. It provides clarity and direction in challenging moments.
