Presence vs. Power of the Holy Spirit
There is a difference between sensing the ‘presence’ of the Holy Spirit and sensing the ‘power’ of the Holy Spirit. The ‘presence’ of the Spirit is soft and gentle, whereas the ‘power’ of the Spirit is thick, forceful, and gushing.
Divine Protection and Provision
The Scripture tells us that we who are to inherit imperishable life “are being protected by the power of God…” (1 Peter 1:5). Whether rich or poor, we are divinely protected by the power of God within us.
Biblical Reference: “His divine power has given us everything needed for life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness” (2 Peter 1:3).
The divine power within us provides everything we need for both our physical and spiritual lives.
Biblical Reference: “Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20).
Saint Paul knew this power that dwelled within him, working like a dynamo, empowering him to work hard for the Kingdom of God.
Biblical Reference: “For this I toil and struggle with all the energy that he powerfully inspires within me” (Colossians 1:29).
The Second Coming of Jesus Christ
One of the most spectacular events is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. The Scriptures tell us:
Biblical Reference: “Lo! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:51-52).
Biblical Reference: “Then we who are alive, who are left, shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore, comfort one another with these words” (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
The Transfiguration by the Holy Spirit
There is a transfiguration waiting for those of us who will be alive when Jesus comes again! This transformation will occur from within us by the Holy Spirit and His power.
Biblical Reference: “If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also through his Spirit that dwells in you” (Romans 8:11).
It is the power of the Holy Spirit within that will transfigure us. Jesus illustrated this in the parable of the ten virgins, where the oil in the lamp represents the power of the Holy Spirit. Some of the virgins could not get transfigured because they lacked the Holy Spirit’s power.
Biblical Reference: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses…” (Acts 1:8).
Differing Measures of Power
The measure of this power differs from person to person. Revelation 3:8d states, “I know that you have but little power….”
The Holy Bible differentiates between having ‘little’ power and having ‘real’ power to witness effectively. The good news is that we can increase the power of God within us. If it is not increasing as you walk the Christian walk, you might be back-sliding, even if it doesn’t seem so.
