Introduction
The Gifts of the Holy Spirit are diverse and powerful, with the Gift of Working Miracles standing out as a remarkable manifestation. Our God is a God of miracles, and through this gift, He works wonders that transcend natural laws.
This Charism is also a ‘power-gift’. This is a manifestation of the Holy Spirit. Our God is a God of miracles. It is through this gift that God works the miracles through us. Miracles transcend natural law. The Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, is full of miracles.
“To another the working of miracles…,” (1 Corinth. 12:10a).
God performs these miracles through men and women to calm nature, raise the dead, and rescue people from natural calamities. These are instant. Miracles deliver people from difficulties and perform judgments. They lead people to salvation and acknowledgment of Jesus Christ as Lord. Jesus’ public ministry was filled with signs and wonders.
“That evening, at sundown, they brought to him all who were sick or possessed with demons. And the whole city was gathered around the door. And he cured many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him,” (Mark 1:32-34).
Think about the miracles He performed in the ministry of Moses and the quality miracles in the days of Elisha.
Contemporary Miracles
Even today, wherever the Gospel is preached, miracles break out. God protects His people by performing miracles, which defeat Satan’s hold over regions. When the magicians of Egypt saw the miracles performed through Moses, they said, “… “This is the finger of God!’…” (Exodus 8:19 b), and took a backseat.
“There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden for eight years, for he was paralyzed. Peter said to him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; get up and make your bed!’ And immediately he got up. And all the residents of Lydda and Sharon saw him and turned to the Lord. Peter put all of them outside, and then he knelt down and prayed. He turned to the body and said, ‘Tabitha, get up.’ Then she opened her eyes, and seeing Peter, she sat up. He gave her his hand and helped her up. Then calling the saints and widows, he showed her to be alive. This became known throughout Joppa, and many believed in the Lord,” (Acts 9:33-42).
Manifestation of Miracles
When the gift of working of miracles is in manifestation, there is a divine intervention in the ordinary course of nature. For example, water turning into wine is an example of the working of miracles in operation.
- Water turned into wine (John 2:1-11)
- Food multiplied (Luke 9:10-17)
- Miracle-money appeared (Matthew 17:27)
These miracles happen even today, with many testimonies of food multiplication from around the world.
Creative Miracles
Creative miracles are breaking out in various retreats these days. Many have heard of retreats and Bible conventions led by Br. Sabu Aruthottiyil. Brother’s ministry, empowered by the Holy Spirit, has seen many stupendous miracles, including creative miracles. God wants to give this gifting to more people today. Many miracles in Brother’s ministry are ‘creative-miracles’ – ovaries that were operated and removed, growing back. People who have lost kneecaps in accidents or due to degeneration, have regrown them. Spinal discs that have degenerated, have re-created. These creative-miracles and others happen today in Jesus’ Name.
Difference Between Healing and Miracles
Divine healing speeds up recovery, while miracles go beyond the natural, changing the laws of nature instantaneously. Healing is for our spirit, soul, and body. Miracles not only affect our spirit, soul, and body, but also the environment and laws of nature. Many miracles are received in the area of healing, but they are simply called ‘healing miracles’. A miracle is a supernatural intervention in the ordinary course of nature, temporarily suspending the accustomed order or interrupting the system of nature as we know it, operated by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Like all other power-gifts, the miracle anointing is activated through prayer, praise and worship, preaching the Word, speaking in faith, laying of hands, receiving the Holy Communion, or while interceding for others many miles away, or through the phone. Many aspects mentioned in the chapters of the gifts of healing can also be incorporated with this particular gift.
