Speaking in Tongues Strengthens Our Inner Man

Life can sometimes feel heavy, and we may find ourselves struggling with weakness inside. But God has placed within us something powerful—our human spirit. When this inner spirit is strong, we can face trials with courage and overcome difficulties with faith. And one of the most effective ways to strengthen our spirit is by praying in tongues.

The Bible Teaches Us About Our Spirit

When God created us, He breathed His Spirit into us. The Bible reminds us:

“For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays…” (1 Corinthians 14:14)

When we pray in tongues, it is not our mind at work, but our spirit praying through the ability given by the Holy Spirit.

The Power of the Prayer Language

On the day of Pentecost, the apostles experienced this very power:

“…and began to speak in other languages, as the Spirit gave them ability.” (Acts 2:4)

Speaking in tongues is more than words—it is a spiritual exercise that builds us up from within. Just like physical exercise strengthens the body, praying in tongues strengthens the spirit.

Strengthening the Inner Man

Paul prayed for believers, asking that our inner being would be strengthened by the Spirit. Sometimes, the Holy Spirit strengthens us directly, even without tongues—but this happens as He wills, and it may not always be consistent.

However, when we regularly pray in tongues, our inner man is continually strengthened. We grow steady, bold, and resilient in the Spirit.

The Lamp of the Lord

Proverbs calls our spirit the lamp of the Lord. And as we pray in the Spirit, this lamp grows brighter and brighter. In other words, we are developing our spirit, making it stronger, clearer, and more alive to God’s guidance.

Step Into Strength

If you long to walk in greater spiritual strength, begin to pray in tongues consistently. With each prayer, you are fueling your inner man, keeping your lamp burning, and allowing the Holy Spirit to shine through you.

Praying in tongues is not just a gift—it is a way to live in strength every day.
